March 15, 2017: Online Book Club: "This is a thorough and intense romantic tale, cast in the fantasy fiction genre. Usually, romances in the fantasy genre are either contrived or silly. I was pleasantly surprised that this was neither. It was an intense and believable romance, set in a different realm. For example, the fact that Sir Kori Blackmore loved his wife and found it hard to move on, or how Dane had meaningless flings without a thought because he didn't remember Meirah, were pretty realistic depictions. Though the story circles around Dane's strength, in many ways it's Meirah, who is stronger of the two, especially how she traverses a continent, in an alien world, to unite with Dane: she never gives up. I found the story emotionally involving. It's a really impressive start to a series."
